B. Risks involved in the depletion of Nickel

Nickel is one of the most valuable minerals being mined in the world. If nickel deposits run out, thousands of Filipinos, especially those employed in nickel-mining companies, such as in Surigao del Norte, would lose their jobs. The nickel mining companies would shut down, affecting the lives of the workers. When unemployment rates rise, the country’s economy would be greatly affected, for the government and private companies will provide occupations for the people. There is also a possibility of a decline or a decrease in the economy for the country is dependent on minerals for mining. The Philippines is one of the top producers of nickel in the world. If a depletion of the said mineral will happen, the Philippines is not the only country which will be affected but rather, various countries which extensively use nickel. The global economy and market will possibly fail. As nickel is one of the most important minerals in the production of modern technologies such as jet airplanes, cars, high strength steels, and high power magnets, if the mineral ran out, there would be less production for the technologies stated.
